Shift Duties for IT in PH
Night-shift
- It's the IT on duty's responsibility to make sure that all servers run and launch on their given schedule to make sure every servers are working properly before US team arrives. IT person on duty should check internet connection, systems performance and Domain connectivity. IT should check for server errors as well. IT should check AutoCAD and major application works on their best capacity.
- IT should check Instance type if it's on its right size
- If early in the morning there is a user that is logged in, it’s the IT on duty responsibility to monitor and be available for support for the User working early in the morning. The IT should disable cloudwatch rules if needed (if the user is on 12H,admin and archistruct). If the user is working on 24H the IT on duty despite the broadcasting notification it's his responsibility to make sure the user logout before the 5 minute mark. After the reboot it’s the IT on duty to make sure to tell the user that its ok to login now or give an approximate time for the user to log back in. Make sure the instance is also working properly before the user logs back in. It is necessary for 24H to reboot for it should Increase capacity in order to meet the US shift. The main reason why other servers does not need to reboot because they are already set to designated size of the server.
- During weekends it’s the IT duty to estimate the instance type if it needs to increase capacity to accommodate more users because usually the instance type are much smaller on weekends. 24H, 12H and Archistruct should just be 2xlarge depends on how many users are working. Most importantly for 24H, during the night 12am-6am it should always be xlarge for its very rare occasion that we have more than 3 people that will work at the same time very early in the morning.
Day-shift
- Be on standby for our PH Staff. Usual complaints during morning is license unavailability; be ready to record these.
- Check SV30/SG-Server for instance size, it should be at c5.9xlarge for dayshift and 2x.large for night shift. With this, also check if cloudwatch rule of SV30 resize is enabled
- Check for activity in our US Servers. Stop/Resize if able to. Be aware of this because some of our US staff have the capability to turn on the servers, they might turn them on in the middle of the day. Do check on instance status every 30 minutes.
- Check cloudwatch rules if there was any that was disabled, assess situation and enable if necessary.
- Weekend Maintenance. Create new AMIs and delete previous AMIs and snapshots. Make sure everything is labeled properly. Check for windows update, or any software update; should be done after creating AMIs. For weekends also be aware if anybody uses our servers and forget to turn them off.
